Douglas Goudie {AKA Ding Gravelhead} is in his 70s, and slowing down. First person: I have evolved a way of seeing the world and the future I feel compelled to 'get out there'. I hope you like my idiocyncracity. I write this early in 2024. Early days to the grand architecture I imagine for the (possible) future glory multimedia portal into a more viable future than the default crash and deplete. Stamp and destroy. The web site architecture I can see in my minds’ eye has many portals. Places to explore and invite contribution and discourse. My view is that if we need to do new things from electronic voting on whatever democracy, we need a forum. Eventually I want ‘pages’ for ‘Mothers wisdom’ – do what you want to do now, while you can stil do anything; to links for all manner of developing sustainability behaviour. One space will be: Localise, localise – water and enery capture, storage and use, community food gardens. Our golobalising has gotten more in global sync, post covid – we are all different now, but at the same time. Community music, food, activity – at the neighbourhood level is my main schtik.
I've been a labourer in many jobs, a university lecturer and long time post doctoral research fellow. I come from coherent thinkers and doers. My cultural sheath is good to me, by and large.
I live in a bushouse in SE New South Wales, Australia. A bushouse I have taken many decades to build, as and when I could. With my own hands, most with whatever material I could scavenge.
I'm saying it's near Eden, NSW, to protect my privacy. Ha! This is my living reward time. As a doer and a thinker. before I head back up to 'Cairns' and my 'chosen' tropical life, partner and dear friends.
Welcome to my world, our one beautiful world. If you are in a high-rise in a huge city, you can live vicariously, a little, through this site. Find some local green open space. get something going. Share music, food, dreams.
I hope to publish little thoughts most days - spontaneous; most times, to what I think about after I get up (and do a bit of gravel work). I love gravel work. All my life. Landform, surface drainage and growing food locally.
I call myself Gravelhead, Ding Gravelhead, because it gives me some distance to write and post without too much self-consciousness. Australians know of Norman Gunston. The world knows of Dame Edna Everage. The AlterEgo gives me a little less inhibition to 'perform' as it does all with stage names/pen names. Welcome to this evolving world view.
